How long have you been at ABLA?

How do you like to start your day?
I am getting ready to take the LARE exams (to be a licensed Landscape Architect), so some mornings I’ll wake up early, get some coffee and study before work.
On days I don’t wake up as early to study. I’ll get up, get ready and get my coffee at the office. We are spoiled and have a really cool coffee machine that we all get to enjoy.
What does a typical day entail?
I like having fun at work. I believe that working in a positive environment is giving me a better quality of life. I recently got promoted to Project Manager 1 and I get to mentor some of my newer coworkers on the simple things such as using a shortcut in AutoCAD to more complex issues like solving challenges that come up in the different projects that we are working on.
What are your hours in the ABLA office and what do you like most about the ABLA digs?
Usually 7:30 to 5:30, but we are lucky to have the flexibility to change it when needed.
I like the collaborative spaces around the office. The location gives me the ability to go outside and walk off a little stress, surrounded by nature, listening to the birds. Even when it’s hot outside, simply walking by the window can change my perspective. I also enjoy relaxing in our comfy couches at lunch time some days.
Are you a coffee, tea, or soda drinker?
Coffee!
What time of day are you most productive? Are you a night owl or an “early bird gets the worm” kind of person?
Morning! Sometimes I would leave the hard work for the next morning, when my brain is fresh and ready to tackle any challenges.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I love solving problems, figuring out the challenges that bring a project to completion. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and experiences with my coworkers so they can advance in their career. At the same time, I enjoy being able to walk over to a coworker when I need help and guidance. Everyone at the office is very knowledgeable and willing to help out.
What inspires you throughout the day?
Knowing that I am living the dream! I really enjoy landscape architecture. I went to school for it and I still get amazed by all the things we get to do. I also love learning every day from every project and every person I get to work with.
What is your secret to success?
Being able to enjoy the little things. Making work fun and finding the bright side in any situation, no matter how difficult it may seem.
