Name Brent Mackie

Position Landscape Architect 1

How long have you been at ABLA?

9 months

How do you like to start your day? (personalize, not necessarily at work!)

I start with an immediate fresh cup of coffee, then I head to the back yard to water the plants.

What does a typical day entail? Do you meet with clients? Do you handle administrative or leadership tasks?

I currently work behind the scenes within ABLA. A typical day would entail meeting with the project leads to discuss what projects and deadlines are coming up. I then help with other projects such as helping to create construction documents and landscape graphics, and reviewing residential landscape designs for HOA approval for a community located here in Phoenix.

What are your hours in the ABLA office and what do you like most about the ABLA digs?

7:45 am 5:45pm.

The ABLA office is so close to Downtown Tempe. Being located near Tempe Town Lake is a plus, and during my lunch break I’ll walk up and down the community pathways along the water.

Are you a coffee, tea, or soda drinker?

Coffee

What time of day are you most productive? Are you a night owl or an “early bird gets the worm” kind of person?

I’ve found that I’m most productive around 9 am and 4pm. Generally I find myself to be a night owl.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy collaborating on designs and using my creativity to correctly display site details through landscape graphics and construction documents.

What inspires you throughout the day?

Being surrounded by my peers who started at the same level I did and worked their way up to more pivotal roles here at ABLA.

What is your secret to success?

My key to success is applying myself and asking questions to continue to learn more about the landscape architecture industry. I strive to become a registered landscape architect in the future, and absorbing all the information like a sponge will help me to achieve that goal.
