Name Lauren Colone

Position Landscape Architect III

How long have you been at ABLA?

More than three years. I previously started with AndersonBaron right after graduation in 2019.

How do you like to start your day?

I prefer to start my mornings around 5:30 a.m. I tend to get up and moving right away or I fall into the trap of wanting to go back to bed. I’ll take my dog on her morning walk, then get ready for the day. I typically make my way into the office around 7:30.

What does a typical day entail?

On a typical day in the office, I do everything from develop construction documents to coordinate with sub consultants and clients. Every day I am learning something new, whether that is applied to a project or in my personal leadership/professional growth.

What are your hours in the ABLA office and what do you like most about the ABLA digs?

I typically work from 7:30 a.m. 5:30 p.m. Monday Thursday with halfday Fridays. One of my favorite parts is how close I live to the office. I’m only 10 minutes away, which is superconvenient. The office is also in a great location close to downtown Tempe and offering a great view of the lake. I like the openfloor concept and being able to socialize and work directly with my coworkers while still having enough privacy to focus when on a deadline.

Are you a coffee, tea, or soda drinker?

Coffee and energy drinks get me through the day, everyday.

What time of day are you most productive? Are you a night owl or an “early bird gets the worm” kind of person?

I am most definitely an early bird, when it comes to work and a night owl in my personal life. I enjoy getting into the office early and having some down time.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I love the variety of projects I get to work on. There is always a learning opportunity with each new project, and I enjoy getting to try new things.

What inspires you throughout the day?

I have a strong work ethic and love what I do. If I am struggling with a new task or something isn’t clicking, I love that I am able to go up to any of my coworkers and work through a task with them. It’s really important for me to not only like what I do but like who I work with. I feel really lucky to have found a company where I experience both.

What is your secret to success?

A little extra time and effort goes a long way, as does being open to learn and try new things. Some days are longer than others, but when I put in the extra time, I experience the most growth.
